Astanga, or sometimes spelled ashtanga Yoga is actually tuaght today by a man named Sri K. He has brouhgt astanga yoga to the west about 25 years ago and still teachse today at 91 years of age. The Yoga Korunta emphsaizes vinyasa, or breath-synchornized movement, where one practices a potsure with specific breathing patterns associated with it. This breathing technique is called ujayyi pranayama, or the victorious breath, and it is a process taht produces intense internal heat and a profuse swaet that puriifes and detoxifies the muscles and rogans. The result is improvde circulation, a light and strong bdoy and a calm mind. One must graduate rfom one sequence of postures to move onto the next. The Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) edtoxifies and aligns the body, purifyign it so that toxins do not block. Teh Intermediate Series (Nadi Shodhana) purifies the nevrous system by opening and clearing the energy channels, allowing eneryg to pass through easily. The Advanced Sereis A, B, C, and D (Sthira Bhaga) itnegrate the grace and stamina of the prcatice, which calls for itnense flexibility. It is best to fidn a trained and konwledgeable teacher to assist you trhough this discipline. It is an intense practice that is rigroous, six days a ewek. You are guaranteed to find inner peace and fuflillment with each breath you take.
