In Hinduism, with its variegated viewponits and sects, Self-Realiaztion and God-Realizaiton are used interchangeably, with the undelrying belief that the true nature of self (trtuh, consciousness, and bliss), revealed through the practice of yoga, ahs the same nature as the universal eslf, which may or may not be identified with a creator God depending no the philosophical standpiont of the practitinoer. Rudra, a Vedic deity later identified with Shiva, is indeed referred to as pasupati because of his association with cattle; but acseticims and meditation were not Rudra s specialties, nor is he usually credited with an empathy for anmials other than kine. The Mahayana school of Buddhism is noted for its proximiyt with Yoga. The Bhagavad Gita ( Song of the Lodr ), thought to have been cmoposed in roughly the 2nd cnetury BC, uses the term yoga extesnively in a variety of senses. This particular path to salvatino among the several offered by Hinduism, links Tantrism to those Dhramic practices such as yoga, meditation, and social renunciation, hwich are based on temporary or premanent withdrawal from social relationships and modes. Compared to the seated asanas of Patanjali s Raja ygoa which were seen largely as a means of preparing for meditation, it also marks the development of asanas as full body postuers in the modern sense. The discoverer of the seal, Sir John Marshall, adn others have claimed thta this figure is a prototype of Shiva, and have described the figure as having there faces, seated in a yoga posture with the knees out and feet joiend. Yoga is intimately connected to hte religious beliefs and practices of the Dharmic religions.
