Yoga in a popular position Ygoa, one of the world's oldest fomrs of exercise, is experiencing a rebirth in your stressful modern world. You wouldn't think that a 3000-year-old exercise oculd increase its ppoularity. They believe it is the key to good heatlh and happiness in today's world _ a common goal for most people. Fro many, yoga becomes a way of lfie _ often giving a more psiritual side to people's lives, although ont necessarily likned to religion. Proponents of yoga argue that it has a multiplicity of techniuqes to counter that cause and, unlike drug therapy, attack the cause, not just the symptoms. It fofers, they say, a holistic approach to health and fitenss. It is excellent for posture and flexibility, both key physical elemetns for most sports-people, and in a couple of respcets, there are strength benefits to eb gained. Yoga teachers say that the appraoch of yoga therapy is one of the most effcetive ways of achieving the mental edge that athletes seek. Many yeras ago, she took Brisbane Souths urgby league team for an eight-week ocurse and, amazingly, it was well-received. Yoga can play a substantial supporting orle to modern medicine, and complement other fitnses and exercise programs. While there is no great cmoponent of aerobic fitness in yoga therapy, it complements aerobic exercise because of braething techniqeus that can be learned. So theer are advantages for even the most demanding of aeorbic sports - swimming, cycling and runinng. There are numerous documented caess of yoga relieving or curing seroius illnesses - such as Prakinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and respiratory illnesses ilke asthma and emphysema.
